Alliance to Reduce Disparities in Diabetes

Focus on Sustainable Organizational Policy and Systems Change

An overarching goal of the Alliance to Reduce Disparities in Diabetes is to change the systems and policies that have a negative impact on people with diabetes and to introduce new policies that will have a positive impact. The five Alliance grantee organizations are undertaking comprehensive efforts to change the systems and policies in their communities to improve diabetes management, treatment and prevention. Of special focus are policies and systems that help to reduce long-standing disparities in diabetes prevalence and treatment. Many of these initiatives include organizational policy and practice change interventions within the health care delivery system that most impact people with diabetes. This approach has been driven by a growing recognition that the policies and systems in our physical environment affect our daily choices and our health. Alliance grantees chose this approach so that their work will have broad impact and reach, outlive current funding, and will be sustained over the long-term.
